How to Stop Overthinking: A Somatic "Earth Ritual" for Deep Stability

How to Stop Overthinking

[Deep Dive: The 'Earth (土)' Prescription for an Unstable Life]

Anxiety is like dust floating in the air. What you need is 'gravity' to settle this dust. In Saju, supplementing the Earth (土) element is not an abstract concept.

It is a physical act of Eating, Touching, and Sensing. Implant the following deep prescriptions into your daily life.

Saju Logic: The Principle of Earth Controlling Water (土剋水)
In Saju Myungri (Eastern Astrology), 'Water' symbolizes fear and terror. Just as a dam holds back water, only solid 'Earth' energy can control overflowing fear (Water).

This is why we must borrow the energy of the soil.

1. Dietary Therapy: Soothe the Stomach with Root Vegetables

In Eastern Medicine, the Earth element governs the 'Bi-Wi' (Spleen and Stomach). For those who overthink and are anxious, the stomach hardens, reducing digestive power. The anxiety switch in the brain only turns off when the stomach is at ease.

1. The Power of 'Natural Sweetness' This is not the artificial sweetness of sugar. The subtle sweetness found in crops grown in the soil—Sweet Potato, Sweet Pumpkin, and Carrot—relaxes a tense stomach.

Action: Eat warm pumpkin porridge or steamed sweet potatoes on an empty stomach in the morning. This sends a signal to the brain that "safe energy has entered."

2. Consuming Root Vegetables Foods that have most directly absorbed the earth's gravity are Burdock, Lotus Root, and Potato. Root vegetables hold the gravity of the soil, so when consumed, they pull your floating energy down to the lower abdomen (Dan-jeon).

3. Yellow Food Therapy The color of Earth is Yellow/Ochre. Keep yellow foods like Turmeric (Curry), Corn, and Cheonggukjang (fermented soybean paste) close. This creates a protective shield of soil in your Aura.

2. Somatic Ritual: Weighted Blankets & Mudding

Anxious people have their center of gravity floating above their chest. You must forcibly provide stability by applying physical weight to the body.

Method How to Do It (Deep Earth Connection)
Weighted Blanket When sleeping, cover yourself with a heavy blanket that is about 10% of your body weight. This provides a cozy pressure, as if you are buried in the soil, immediately activating the Parasympathetic Nervous System. This is most effective for insomnia and anxiety.
Earthing & Mudding
(Barefoot Walking)
If possible, step on wet soil or sand barefoot. Wet Earth has higher conductivity than dry ground, making it excellent for discharging the body's active oxygen (inflammation/fire energy) into the earth.
Gardening
(Touching Soil)
Rather than flashy flowers, try growing root crops like potatoes or sweet potatoes yourself. Do not be afraid of getting dirt under your fingernails. Studies have shown that microbes in the soil act as natural antidepressants.

3. Mental Alchemy: Restoring 'Trust (믿음)'

In the Five Virtues, Earth corresponds to 'trust' (믿음). The land does not lie. You reap what you sow, and the seasons return without fail. Your anxiety stems from the distrust that "the world might betray me."

🛑 Stop & Drop When anxious thoughts loop, shout "STOP" in your mind and stomp your feet on the ground with a 'thud'. Then, visualize your thoughts flowing from your head, through your feet, into the center of the earth (magma) to be burned away.

📜 Recording the 'Unchanging' Every night, write down 3 things that 'did not change' today.

Example: "The sun rose in the morning.", "My heart continued to beat.", "The floor held me up without collapsing."

These simple facts re-implant the code "The world is safe" into your subconscious.

4. Advanced Feng Shui: Empty the Center

In Feng Shui, the center of the house is called the 'Center Palace' (Jung-gung), where Earth energy is most condensed.

  • The Aesthetic of Emptiness: Do not pile clutter in the exact center of your home. If this area is blocked, digestion fails, and the center of your life shakes.

  • Square Shape: The shape of Earth is a square. When anxious, use square furniture or rugs rather than round tables to give 'Order and Structure' to the space. This organizes chaotic brainwaves.
